This is one of America's most loved lotteries available in 45 states. It is also played in the District of Columbia, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. It is run by the non-profit body Multi-State Lottery Association. The lottery began in 1992. Back then, draws happened twice a week.

Powerball's $1.586 billion jackpot in 2016 was the largest in lottery history. It was split among three tickets.
